What is the Android Navigation SDK

The Android Navigation SDK by Telematics Technologies provides all the essential components required to integrate full-featured turn-by-turn navigation into your Android application. It combines online route calculation, real-time traffic data, visual and voice guidance, and flexible UI components that can be easily customized to match your app’s design.

Core Capabilities

1. Route Calculation

  • Calculates routes from the current GPS position to a specified destination (latitude/longitude).
  • Supports single-destination routes (origin → destination).
  • Coverage area: entire Europe.
  • Route calculation is performed online using up-to-date map and traffic data.
  • Automatic route recalculation, when the driver leaves the current route, can be enabled or disabled via SDK configuration.

2. Traffic Visualization

  • The displayed route dynamically reflects real-time traffic conditions, such as congestion levels and road closures.
  • Traffic information is currently available for Poland, with map data coverage for all of Europe.

3. Visual Navigation

Provides detailed on-screen navigation guidance, including:

  • Current and next maneuver (with visual arrows and distance indicators).
  • Street name or road number for the upcoming maneuver.
  • Estimated distance and travel time to the destination.

Additional visual elements:

  • Speed limits and current speedometer.
  • Visual warnings when the driver exceeds the speed limit.
  • Traffic incident icons (speed cameras, police checks, accidents, roadworks).
  • Lane assistant showing the correct lane for the next maneuver.

4. Voice Navigation

  • Turn-by-turn voice guidance in Polish.
  • Voice prompts include distance to the next maneuver, direction, and rerouting information.

5. UI Integration and Customization

The SDK provides flexible options for integrating navigation views:

  • Use ready-to-go navigation views for a quick setup.
  • Or, use individual components (e.g., maneuver view, speed view, ETA view) within your own UI.
  • Customize colors, typography, and layouts to match the look and feel of your application.
  • Optionally, use provided data models to feed your own custom views.

Data Sources

  • Traffic data (Poland) – real-time information on road congestion, accidents, closures, and roadworks.
  • Map data (Europe) – current road geometry, restrictions, and dynamic updates for road closures and construction.
